Why private deployments need modifiable source

Private delivery that only ships a black-box binary leaves compliance audits, vulnerability patches, and localization adaptations waiting on vendor schedules. Modifiable source is not a style preference—it is a precondition for sustainable delivery and auditability: you can check what actually ran, and you can patch within contractual boundaries.

  • Core ships as readable source; run paths are reviewable
  • Commercial capability enters through license and dynamic load; without a key it does not load; the boundary is checkable
  • Baseline and verification records can be compared—avoid “verbal versions”

See open-core seam and baseline traceability. Modifiable does not mean unrestricted use of enterprise modules without a license; the seam and JWT feature gates still apply.
